Noodle Music grew out of a strong musical, mother-daughter bond; Margareta and Naomi Burrell. They are musicians and pedagogs in their own right, with a shared love of music and movement. During the pandemic they made an extensive collection of lullabies and night music and recorded a selection in 2024 with colleagues from Barokksolistene. Naomi was then selected as an Independent Creator for Yoto and so far their two part album, ‘Lullabies from around Europe/the World’ has reached over 2000 families worldwide through this retro children’s radio player. Drawing on their Scottish, Swiss-german, French and Swedish roots, the project has a strong international flavour with a multitude of languages and weaving in poetry from different cultures. The home of the repertoire lies in baroque music such as Telemann, JC Bach, Händel, and deep dives into folkloric song traditions. They also enjoy drawing on composers who explored their love of folk music such as Bartok and Warlock.
In 2025, Noodle Music was selected from over 500 applicants for the Britten Pears Arts Residency programme to turn the album into a family show. They are passionate about trying to bring this to families in a wide variety of settings and are currently planning their Autumn 2026 tour which will finish at Brighton Early Music Festival. Their mission is to bring baroque music to audiences in a relaxed environment, with a folksy and improvised feel, and to allow all to feel soothed, nourished, whilst welcome and energised.
